England skipper Jos Buttler was all praise for all-rounder Ben Stokes for his brilliant batting show against Pakistan in the summit clash of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Notably, Stokes batted brilliantly as he scored 52 runs in 49 deliveries with the help of one maximum and five boundaries and picked one wicket in the first innings.

While speaking after the match, Buttler admitted that Stokes never let his performance in the T20 World Cup 2016 push him back, instead, he redeemed himself by guiding England to wins in ODI World Cup 2019 as well as the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

“It's an amazing journey. I think he rushed with his documentary as he could have added T20 World Cup 2022 title triumph to it. He never let that 2016 final sort of push him back, and you think of the things he went on to achieve in his career since then is just amazing,” Buttler said.

Notably, Ben Stokes was smashed for four consecutive sixes by Carlos Braithwaite which secured a thrilling T20 World Cup title for West Indies.

The Englishman was left in tears as his teammates consoled him in front of a packed crowd at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Commenting on Ben Stokes’ innings, Buttler said that the all-rounder was not middling the ball initially due to the nature of the pitch, but he showed real fighting character by staying till the end.

“I think it certainly was his most fluent innings or probably didn’t time the ball well as he does, but we knew he was never going to go down without a fight and stand up and be there at the end,” added the England skipper.

He further termed Ben Stokes a legend of the game and one of the best ‘finishers’ England has ever produced.  Notably, experts raised doubts about Stokes’ inclusion in the squad looking at his past performances in this format, but the all-rounder shut down his critics.
