Portugal skipper and legendary striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been hot and cold in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022, in Qatar. Although Ronaldo has etched his name in the history of the marquee tournament by finding the back of the net in each of the five appearances, the striker has also been named among the worst XI of the World Cup group stages by Sofascore.

Ronaldo’s only goal came via the penalty spot against Ghana, and he failed several opportunities against South Korea in the last group clash. However, Cristiano Ronaldo made lot of shockwaves in the football fraternity with his explosive interview to Piers Morgan, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

While Ronaldo came out all gun blazing at Manchester United manager and administration, he was soon released by the club. In a fresh development, former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has stated that Ronaldo did everything on purpose to facilitate his exit from the club.

The former tremble-winning defender believes that Portuguese legend knew exactly what he was speaking in the interview. “He did it on purposed. There was a strategy behind it in terms of how are we going to organise this so that I can leave the club? From the beginning to now, you could see where it was going. Not playing, not being in the team, being snubbed, not being used, walking away and then saying, from United’s point of view as well, we spoke about it and the discussion about who is right in all these situations,” Stam told Football Betting.

Former footballer further claimed that everything was arranged to align Ronaldo’s exit from the club. “In everything that has been going on, it’s been arranged in how it need to be to leave the club. The next step was to give an interview and say certain things that is going to blow up and eventually you are going to be leaving,” Jaap Stam added.

Stam further opined that United should have let the forward depart in the summer itself, which would have averted the situation. “Its not a good situation. I always questioned the way of working with him, and how it started when he joined the club, how the conversations went with Ronaldo, then the decision making about not using him,” Stam concluded.
