Indian chess Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand hailed China’s Ding Liren after he defeated D Gukesh to bounce back and level the World Chess Championship match on six points each in Singapore on December 10. Gukesh was ahead of Liren by one point after his second on Sunday which came after seven consecutive draws. Now Liren’s win has put him neck-to-neck with Gukesh. Now, D Gukesh and Ding Liren will lock horns again on December 11 after a one day rest.
Defending champions Ding Liren had a tough fight against 18-year-old D Gukesh as both of them couldn’t hold the lead for much time. Both Gukesh and Liren are currently at six points each and the first to reach 7.5 points will end up winning the title. Talking about it at his column in Sportstar, Vishwanathan Anand said that both the players deserve to rest after two back-to-back decisive games. He also hailed Liren and said “Ding shows he’s most dangerous when pushed against the wall.”
I was very curious about what Gukesh’s approach would be for Game 11: Vishwanathan Anand
In his column, Vishwanathan Anand shared his thoughts on the clash between D Gukesh and Ding Liren in the World Chess Championship. He believes that Liren responded sensibly to Gukesh’s tactics and and managed his time well to make fourth and fifth move.
“I was very curious about what Gukesh’s approach would be for Game 11. He repeated the Reti Opening and offered a gambit on the fourth move. He had clearly come to do battle. Ding responded sensibly, though his time management (an hour to make his fourth and fifth moves, time he would miss dearly at the end of the game) has been simply a handicap,” Vishwanathan Anand wrote in his column.
