The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The side has quality batters and two talented wicketkeepers in Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik. India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have also made a return to the team after missing out on the Asia Cup 2022.

The selectors have picked four spin-bowling options in R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Hooda. As the tournament is being held in Australia, spinners won’t have many roles to play. However, Daniel Vettori thinks R Ashwin’s experience of having bowled on the Australian pitches will come in handy. The former New Zealand captain also hailed the star off-spinner for his adaptability.

Vettori further stated that Ashwin can play the all-rounder’s role in absence of Ravindra Jadeja who has been ruled out of the tournament with injury. “We all know Ashwin has been exceptional in Tests. The thing for him is he’s coming off a great IPL, and he’s obviously included in the T20 squad for India," the former New Zealand captain, who is here to play the second edition of the Legends League Cricket, told reporters.

“He’s one of those guys who’s very adaptable, he understands what he needs to do in all situations. I think if he’s picked he will know how to perform. He’s been to Australia on a number of occasions," the 43-year-old said. “India does have a plethora of spin bowlers, a lot to choose from. The fact that most of the spinners are all-rounders as well I think that sets him apart and give the team a good balance."

Ind ia squad for ICC T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh.
