Ever since Virat Kohli stepped down from the role, post the team's 2-1 defeat in the Test series against South Africa, the top position was vacant. Rohit's appointment as Test skipper was expected by many as Indian selectors have preferred to keep the similar leader in all formats of the game. Earlier, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were trusted for the same.

Rohit has impressed everyone with his leadership qualities in last few years. The newly-appointed skipper has recently surpassed his predecessors, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, in terms of taking the least matches to win 30 games as India's captain.

Rohit has led the national team in 36 contests, winning 30, while Virat Kohli took 41 games and MS Dhoni achieved the milestone in 50 encounters. Undoubtedly, Rohit's appointment saw Twitter flooded with congratulatory posts, and users expressed their happiness over the new appointment.

Speaking of Rohit's track record specifically in all formats, he led 24 times in T20sI and won 20 matches, with a winning percentage of 88.33 per cent. The latest win came against West Indies in the 2nd T20I at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old has quite a similar track record in ODIs as well. He led the squad in the 50-over game in 13-matches and won 11 of them. The stats put his winning percentage at 86.61 per cent. In Rohit's debut as skipper, team India defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in 2018.

Rohit's extraordinary skills of being the leader were evident in the Indian Premier League, where he lifted the title five times, which speaks volumes about his incredible captaincy record.
