During the Group B clash in the AFCON 2023 between Egypt and Ghana, Mohamed Salah was forced off the pitch at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan due to a suspected hamstring injury. After Egypt settled for a 2-2 draw against Ghana, their head coach Rui Vitoria spoke about his player’s injury, stating that he thought it wasn’t dangerous.

It was the 45th minute of the first half when Mohamed Salah, who wasn’t pleased with his suspected hamstring injury, looked visibly upset, and his teammates consoled him while he left the pitch. A couple of minutes after the Egyptian was substituted by Mostafa Fathi, Ghana took the lead through Mohammed Kudus’ goal in the first half injury time.

Egypt responded with an equaliser through Omar Marmoush in the 69th minute of the high-octane AFCON contest, and minutes later, two more goals were scored. Ghana took the 2-1 lead in the 71st minute with the second goal of the night from Mohammed Kudus before Mostafa Fathi, who had replaced Mohamed Salah, made it 2-2 for Egypt just three minutes later.

In the post-match interview, Rui Vitoria detailed the injury concerns surrounding Mohamed Salah and said, “We don't know yet what the problem is. I hope it's not a big problem. It was difficult timing for us because in the second half, we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.”

When the reporters quizzed him further about the severity of Mohamed Salah’s injury, Rui Vitoria responded, “Now I don't know because it's (too) early to see something. I think it's not dangerous, but let's see if (Mohamed) Salah recovers.”
