On Monday, May 5, match number 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi Internatioal Stadium in Hyderabad was abandoned after rain came into play. Looking to seal two crucial points in order to keep their playoffs hopes alive, rain marred SRH’s chances, thus bowing them out of the competition.
For the unversed, SRH skipper, Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to field first. After inviting the visitors to bat first, SRH started on a positive note, with their skipper, Pat Cummins, dismantling the top order on the very first delivery of his first three overs. The lethal bowling from Cummins put DC in a precarious situation as their scoreboard read 29/5 after 7.1 overs, with their top five back in the dugout.
However, Tristan Stubbs did provide some assitance, playing a crucial unbeaten 41-run knock off 36 deliveries along with Ashutosh Sharma, who also added 41 runs off 26 deliveries and helped DC put 133 runs on the board at the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Much before the hosts could take the crease to chase the below par total, rain came into play, halting the innings.
How can DC qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs after no result vs SRH?
However, their chances went on to get bleak as the ground saw water getting accumulated on the field and the covers taking their place on the pitch. Although, the super sopper tried their best to get rid of the water, but with the clock ticking and a possible chance of a game diminishing, the umpires eventually decided to call off the match, thus denting SRH’s chances to progress into the final four.
But with the tournament done for SRH, DC still have chances to make into the final four. Seeing the current scenario, the qualification cut-off might still drop below 18 depending on other results, but DC can only be confident of progressing further if they win all their remaining three games in the tournament.
With the Axar Patel-led DC still to face Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians to complete their set of 14 league stage games, a win in all of them will take them to 19 points, confirming a qualification. A loss in one will still keep them in the race, depending on other results.
