The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) are having a tough season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Gujarat-based franchise slipped to the ninth spot after their four-wicket loss against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 4.
After early dismissals of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill by Mohammed Siraj, Shahrukh Khan and David Miller’s crucial 61-run partnership helped them to post 147 runs on the board. However, it wasn’t enough for them to secure a win as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis’ solid partnership at the top of the order along with Dinesh Karthik’s 12-ball unbeaten 21 propelled them to a much-needed win.
Gujarat Titans playoffs scenario explained
Seeing Gujarat get their seventh loss in the IPL 2024 from 11 games, they dropped down places with only three matches more to go for them. The Titans are on eight points in 11 matches. For them to advance to the playoffs, GT needs to win their final three group-stage matches to ensure qualification. Seeing the scenario, even winning two games from here can earn them a qualification spot, but it is theoretically possible only.
The Shubman Gill-led GT will next take on the defending champions in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 10.
