The IPL 2024 has come to its business end with only 11 league games remaining in the cash-rich league. However, until now only the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals have almost confirmed their spot in the top four, securing a safe mark of 16 points in 11 games each. Apart from them, six teams are in contention for the playoffs with the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians being knocked out of the tournament.
Following the demolition of Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings to the hands of Gujarat Titans, the points table has opened up with Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru still seeking their name in the contention race while Shubman Gill’s Gujarat expecting an outside chance of advancing into the final four.
How RCB-CSK clash can become the knockout clash
Chennai Super Kings, who still have got two games to their name against the Rajasthan Royals and RCB, will aim for direct qualification by securing a convincing victory in both games. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis’ side, who have garnered 10 points in 12 games can only reach 14 points if they clinch both the games.
However, the game can become a knockout clash for both teams if various scenarios align for the remaining matches. This can happen if Sanju Samson’s RR romp CSK in their Sunday clash in Chennai followed by Bengaluru winning against Delhi Capitals on Sunday evening.
Also, they have to depend on either one of the teams or both of them, DC or MI thrash LSG in their respective encounters which will put the conditions on par for the Southern derby to thrill and prove to be a do-or-die encounter.
