Asia Cup 2023 event will be hosted in both Sri Lanka (9 matches) and Pakistan (4 matches) from 30th August to 17th September. Asia Cup event will be hosted by Sri Lanka for the fifth time after 1986, 1997, 2004, and 2010 while Pakistan will be hosting this event only for the second time after 2008. 

Indian team unfortunately didn't participate in the 1986 Asia Cup due to a strained cricketing relationship with Sri Lanka and they were replaced with Bangladesh in that tournament.

1. India in 1997 Asia Cup:
sachinIn the 1997 Asia Cup, a total of four teams (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh) took part in that event which was also notably the sixth edition of the Asia Cup tournament.

The Indian team were a dominant force in the early stage of Asia Cup history as they won all four of the tournaments they participated in the 1984, 1988, 1990/91, and 1995 editions but unfortunately 1997 edition was won by the Sri Lankan team for the second time after 1986.

Beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in Colombo (RPS) - Group Stage
No Result vs Pakistan in Colombo (SSC) - Group Stage
Beat Bangladesh by 9 wickets in Colombo (SSC) - Group Stage
Lost to Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in Colombo (RPS) - Finals

India despite performing well in the group stage of the tournament unfortunately lost the final game to Sri Lanka and ended as runners-up in Asia Cup 1997.
