Lionel Messi-led Argentina defeated Croatia 3-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 semifinal on Tuesday night, however, Luka Modric's side will feature for the one more time in the quadrennial showpiece on Saturday at the Khalifa International Stadium.

After Lionel Messi scored the penalty in the 34th minute against Croatia, whole momentum of the match was shifted towards Argentina as Julian Alvarez found the back of the net in just five minutes. Alvarez scored a solo goal as his first and then Messi produced a beautiful piece of dribbling to assist the 22-year-old.

Croatia hearts broke in the 70th minute when Argentina took a three goal lead in the semifinal, however, the team has still one more game left in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Croatia will face the loser of the another semifinal match between France and Morocco in the third place play-off on Saturday.

After finishing as the runners up in the 2018 World Cup, reigning Golden Ball winner Luka Modric helped Croatia to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive FIFA World Cup. Despite losing their chance to feature in two consecutive FIFA World Cup finals, the Vatreni stand a chance to claim the third place in Qatar.

Star midfielder Modric has scored 23 goals and produced 25 assists in his 161 appearances for Croatia.
