World No. 1 Novak Djokovic created history on Sunday as he lifted his 20th Grand Slam of his career, equaling the record of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The Serbian was at his absolute best at Centre Court as he defeated Italy's Matteo Berrettini 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to clinch a historic title in London. The 34-year-old was undoubtedly delighted with his performance as he secured his third Grand Slam of the year.

Prize money in Wimbledon 2021

Apart from the coveted trophy, Novak Djokovic will also earn a whopping prize money. The Serbian will notably earn an estimated amount of 1.7 million pounds (INR 17.6 crore) as a result of winning the Championship this year. Interestingly, the prize money has seen a drastic fall (due to COVID-19 pandemic) from the last edition of Wimbledon. When Djokovic had won the title in 2019, he had received an amount of 2.35 million pounds (INR 24.3 crore). Matteo Berrettini, who finished as runner-up, will receive an amount of 900,000 pounds (INR 9.32 crore).

Talking about women's singles, Australia's Ashleigh Barty won the title after defeating Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3 in the final on Saturday. The duo will also earn the same amount as Djokovic and Berrettini. Notably, Wimbledon has been rewarding the same prize money to both men and women players since 2007.

While the winners of men's doubles (Mate Pavic/Nikola Mektic) and women's doubles (Hsieh Su-wei/Elise Mertens) will receive a prize money of 480,000 pounds (INR 4.97 crore) each, the mixed doubles' champion will take home a cash prize of 100,000 pounds (INR 1.03 crore).
