In the ongoing qualifier-2 game between Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, MI used two substitute players: Nehal Wadhera and Vishnu Vinod, while batting in the 2nd innings of this game. Many fans were confused about how MI used two substitute batters in this game since Nehal Wadhera already came in as an impact player by replacing Akash Madhwal to open the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma.
Whereas for Vishnu Vinod, the Concussion sub-rule which was widely used in Test cricket came into effect in IPL was applied. In January 2020, it was announced that the new ICC rule of using concussion sub will be implemented in IPL. Hence Vishnu Vinod has become the first player to be used as a concussion substitute in place of Ishan Kishan injured his eye in the first innings. Under this rule, any player, who suffered a major injury can be replaced if he is found to be injured by the match referee.
