The Asia Cup 2023 schedule was released on Wednesday and will see India facing off against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy. There is also a chance the two bitter rivals will meet three times over the coming 19 days at the 16th edition of the Asia Cup.

This is because both countries have been drawn into the same group and therefore can meet again in the super fours round of the tournament. Reacting to the draw, India head coach Rahul Dravid said during a press conference that he will focus on the two opening games and not worry himself over the possibility of facing Pakistan three times.

Before the second test against the West Indies, Dravid reiterated that he would take the tournament one step at a time and focus first on delivering good performances during the group stages. While the coach relishes the potential of playing Pakistan thrice, he also acknowledges that looking too far ahead and taking anything for granted in the sport is detrimental.

Dravid said, “The schedule is out and you have to qualify for the Super4s to play Pakistan three times, so one step at a time. I don’t believe in counting my chickens too much. I want to play one game at a time.”

Ind ia looks to have better showing at Asia Cup 2023

Team India will look to perform better at Asia Cup 2023 than they did in the last, where the Men in Blue were knocked out in the super fours round after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Dravid will hope that his team put together a string of strong performances to bolster confidence and momentum going into the World Cup later this year.
