Cricket is a sport that is gaining popularity across the globe but it has had a massive fan following in Asian countries, especially in countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. In these three countries, cricketers are worshipped like gods but they also face heat for not performing to the expectation of the people. But not liking a cricketer due to religion sounds completely strange, but unfortunately, it’s a truth.

There have been times when cricketers belonging to a minority religion in the country have been targeted. An example of the same was seen when Mohammed Shami was brutally trolled after India lost to Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Shami’s fault was that he conceded a few runs and did not bowl to the expectations of the people.

When this issue was brought before Virat Kohli at a press conference, the then India captain had called these trolls ‘spineless’ and had reckoned that this was the most pathetic thing to do. “Attacking someone over their religion is the most, I would say, pathetic thing that a human being can do,” skipper Kohli said.

“There is a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person,” he had added.

While Kohli clearly indicated what he and others in the team thought of such trolls, a recent video from Bangladesh shocked everyone when a minor boy made a strong comment about cricketer Soumya Sarkar without any hesitation. In the video, a journalist asks the boy who he wants to meet from the Bangladesh cricket team.

The boy names Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam. However, when the journalist cross questions if he would like to meet Soumya Sarkar, the little guy unhesitant says “Soumya Sarkar is a Hindu cricketer, I don’t want to meet him”.
