English giants Chelsea have shown a keen interest in singing Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez from Eredivisie club AFC Ajax and the 25-year-old footballer has recently opened up on the 'difficult situation' for the Dutch club after the departure of Antony and Lisandro Martinez.

Alvarez has a contract with the Dutch club, AFC Ajax until the summer of 2025 and apart from Chelsea, Spanish club Barcelona are also interested in signing the midfielder, which they consider as prefect replacement for Sergio Busquets.

While talking to ESPN NL, Alvarez said,  “Nobody expected that Chelsea would make another offer. It was a difficult situation. Ajax really couldn't go anywhere. It couldn't do anything more. It didn't have a player in my position."

Alvarez further talked about his disappointment with the failed deal as he 'fought as far as he could' to make his transfer possible. He added,  “I fought as far as I could. I didn't want to do that too much either. Because I know the responsibility I have within the club. But yes, eventually you are aware that everything changes....  I am very disappointed, but I am convinced that sooner or later a big club will come for me."

Edson Alvarez has registered 86.1 per cent passing in his five Champions League appearances for Ajax while he has marked 87.8 per cent passing in his nine Eredivisie appearances this season. In UCL, the Mexican midfielder has scored the opening goal against Rangers while he assisted two goals in the Dutch league.
