Former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas made headlines when he came out as gay on social media, however, he deleted the post later and offered an apology. Similarly, his compatriot Carles Puyol, who appreciated the former Porto player, has also apologized for 'hurting sensitivities'.

On Sunday evening, 41-year-old Casillas took to Twitter and revealed that he is gay, but later deleted his post and claimed that his account was hacked.

On the other side, Puyol supported the goalkeeper's announcement as he wrote, " It's time to tell our story, Iker " followed with a heart and a kiss.

After Casillas removed his tweet and claimed it was hacked, many fans were amazed over Puyol's comment, which began speculations over former Barcelona man's sexuality. On Sunday night, Carles Puyol took to his official Twitter handle and offered an apology for his 'clumsy joke' and stated that he has 'no bad intention'.

He tweeted, " I have made a mistake. Sorry for a clumsy joke with no bad intentions and totally out of place. I understand that it may have hurt sensitivities. All my respect and support for the LGTBIQA+ community."

Casillas debuted for Spain in 2000 and played 167 matches for the team, winning the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and Euro 2008 while Puyol was also a part of the world cup and Euro winning Spanish team, he played 100 matches for his national side.
