The All-India Senior Selection Committee announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, slated to take place next month. While the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel regained their fitness at the right time and were included in the squad, Md. Shami's inclusion in the reserve player category surprised many cricket pundits.

However, veteran Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthi's addition to the 15-member squad was nothing less than a fairytale story as the 37-year-old batter earned his space on the back of tremendous performances in this year's Indian Premier League, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The wicket-keeper batter, who was once written off by many from the scheme of things on the international stage, showcased his batting prowess and his immense cricketing intelligence while playing blistering knocks for his franchise as a finisher. The RCB player who made his intentions of doing 'something amazing' for his country in upcoming ICC tournaments clear, was called back into the Indian side after the conclusion of the T20 domestic tournament.

Ever since making his instrumental comeback in the Indian side, Karthik emerged as a prominent finisher was even picked over regular wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant in the Asia Cup 2022 opener. Minutes after selectors named the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup, Karthik expressed his emotions by tweeting that 'Dreams do come true.'

While Karthik's tweet instantly went viral on social media and his story became a major source of inspiration for all the aspiring sportsmen in the world, he also took the opportunity to express gratitude towards his IPL franchise RCB for trusting him and making a valuable contribution in his quest to achieve his dream.

"Thanks, RCBTweets for being an integral part of the journey and helping me achieve my dream. Most importantly to all the RCB fans who chant RCB, RCB even when am in my blues representing team INDIA, I LOVE YOU GUYS," he posted on Twitter.

Notably, Karthik played several defining knocks for his IPL franchise in IPL 2022 and amassed 330-runs in 16 games in the tournament. He finished with an average of 55 and a strike rate of 180.
