India's discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur finished at the sixth position in the women's Discus Throw Final. Kaur recorded a score of 61.62 m in her first attempt and ended at 6th position. She recorded her highest throw score of 63.70m in her third attempt. Notably, USA's Valerie Allman won the gold medal with the highest throw of 68.98 m.

Even though Kamalpreet failed to get on the podium, she became the first Indian women discus thrower to reach Olympics finals. She produced a commendable effort to secure 6th position in the final. After the hard-fought final, Kamalpreet Kaur made a huge revelation regarding her future aspirations.

During the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of last year, Kamalpreet Kaur had started playing cricket in her village. Now, she has revealed that she wants to play cricket for Indian women's team in the future. She said, "I played cricket in January along with discus throw. I now want to play cricket for India team." Notably, Kaur is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Program.

I had left training discus and started practising cricket in 2020: Kamalpreet

During the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of last year, Kamalpreet Kaur battled depression due to the fact that she was not able to compete in tournaments due to prevailing Covid-19 restrictions. She recently opened up about her struggles during this period and revealed that she had contemplated leaving discuss throw.

“I went into depression towards the end of 2020 due to the fact that I was not able to compete in tournaments due to prevailing covid-19 restrictions. I had reached a point wherein I felt like leaving discus throw altogether and focus all my energies on cricket. In fact, I had even left training discus and started practising cricket,” Kaur had said to The Bridge after reaching the final round.
