After a well-made half century in the first innings at the Lord's, Rohit Sharma seemed to carry his form to the post-match press conference as well. Rohit is well known for his out of the box replies. The ‘Borivali lad's’ humour is sometimes too much to handle for the reporters. In one such instance, Rohit Sharma gave a humorous answer to a reporter's question regarding India's win in the second Test.
In a video clip shared by Rohit's IPL franchise Mumbai Indians on Twitter, a reporter is heard saying that a win in the second Test will be of more significance if India wins the game on the fourth day, i.e. on India's independence day, itself. The reporter said, “If India wins on 15th August, it will be a great victory for the team and Indians will get one more thing to celebrate about”. Replying to which, Rohit made a gesture of saluting and said, “Salute sir! You are absolutely right. If this happens, it will surely be a great thing”.

After being inserted into bat first by England's captain Joe Root, India did exceptionally well to completely dominate the first day. The opening pair of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma handled the new ball really well and played patiently in the first session. Rohit led the attack as he scored a handsome-looking half century before falling prey to an in-swinging delivery from James Anderson. He scored 83 runs and recorded his highest overseas score.
His partner on the other side, KL Rahul, played second fiddle till Rohit was there. As soon as he departed, Rahul took center stage and steadily took India to 200. He scored his sixth century in Test cricket and went back with a score of 127*. Indian skipper Virat Kohli also made a good contribution as he scored 40 odd runs and stitched a half-century stand with Rahul. India will start the second day in the driver's seat and will look to score as many runs as possible.
