After the month-long T20 World Cup 2022, senior players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli joined the group in Bangladesh for the multi-format tour.

While India is yet to win a World Cup since 2011, the former Indian skipper has given a stern warning to the Indian players including seniors. According to Sunil Gavaskar, a core group in the squad must play each and every 50-over game and must restrain themselves from taking any sort of break.

A report published in India TV quoted the World Cup-winning player as the latter hoped that there will not be much ‘chopping’ in the team. “I hope there is not much chopping and changing in the team. I also hope players will not take too many breaks. If this happens, the combination takes a long time to gel when you come into the World Cup. And then in World Cup, there are no matches where you can afford to lose,” Gavaskar said.

The veteran Indian cricketer further stressed keeping the core players in the squad for every match, accepting the inclusion of a few odd players in the squad.  “So, it is crucial that the core plays all matches. Yes, there will be an odd player coming in somewhere when you need an extra bowler or a batter. But the core has to play every single ODI. No rest, you are playing for India. No rest, if you want to win the World Cup. And for that, you need that combination to be absolutely gelling every single match,” added Mr. Gavaskar.
