Gujarat Titans pulled off a stunning last-ball victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday night. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan played fine innings in the match as they chased down 22-runs in the last over to take the side home.
While speaking with Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia, Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya admitted that he was almost prepared for the 'Super Over' but was told by head coach Ashish Nehra to stay calm as the match will finish in this over only.
"I was getting ready for Super Over, but Ashu Bhai said, ' Hey, hold on! We are finishing this here only", Pandya revealed.
The skipper further added that Tewatia sending the thigh pad back assured him of the Super Over. In response, Tewatia explained the reason behind it. "I thought, if the bowler bowls a yorker, Rashid Bhai will play the shot and that he usually plays through the middle of his legs towards the square boundary. I thought that if it was not a six, I had to run no matter what. But Rashid Bhai did it."
The Afghan spinner also confessed that both the batters were only focusing on one delivery at a time. "I had a chat with Rahul, and we both showed confidence in each other. We were not taking dot ball pressure, but the idea was to take a maximum run on any bad ball," he concluded.
Gujarat openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubhman Gill provided a solid start to their run-chase as both the batters added 69-runs for the first wicket. But a fifer from Umran Malik put the GT side in a dangerous situation as the team needed 22-runs in the last over of the game.
However, Rashid Khan's heroic in the last over helped Gujarat Titans secure 2 points.
