Former Spain’s mid-fielder and Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso has confirmed his stay at the German club and quashed the rumours of his probable move to either Premier League club Liverpool or Bayern Munich for the next season. Both the clubs were scouting to appoint former Bayern mid-fielder as a replacement of their respective current managers.
Liverpool were seeking for an able replacement for their departing Jurgen Klopp, but the Reds were already not expecting their former mid-fielder to join the Anfield as their next successor. On the other hand, Bayern Munich too, are looking for a replacement of Thomas Tuchel, who is set to depart from the German club in the next season.
The 42-year-old has proved to be a successful manager for the German club. As his records speak, in the 154 games he played as a manager for Leverkusen, he possessed a win percentage of 52.6%, winning 81 matches.
Speaking on his decision of staying with the current club, Alonso said, “I had a good meeting with Bayer Leverkusen and I informed them that I will STAY and continue at the club.” “After lot of talks about my future, I used the break to reflect and make my decision. This is the place to be for me,” he further added.
In the ongoing season, Alonso is leading the Bayer Leverkusen to a successful campaign with the German club remaining unbeaten in all competitions and look to end the 11-year-long dominance of the Bayern Munich in Bundesliga.
