India won their inaugural match of ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia by 6 wickets despite losing three batters very cheaply for a duck, as the sensible 165-run partnership from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul helped them to chase a total of 200 runs as they were struggling at 2/3 after the end of second over. 

Initially, Australia winning the toss put themselves to bat first and managed to post only 199 runs on board as their batters struggled to read the spin trio of Jadeja, Kuldeep and Ashwin, who ended up picking a total of six wickets in this innings. 

Australian team at one stage were 110/2 in 27 overs, but from there they ended up collapsing to a poor total of 140/7 with Jadeja picking three of them. Aussies could have been bundled out for a total of less than 170 runs but Starc's decent contribution with the bat helped them to reach 199 runs.
