Australian legend David Warner, who retired from international cricket last year, made a rather surprising comment about being good with England fans booing him during The Hundred 2025, which will begin on August 5. The 38-year-old, who was signed by London Spirit in The Hundred 2025 draft earlier this week for £120,000, will be taking part in the franchise competition for the first-time in career later this year.
Notably, during his illustrious career in Australian colours, the English cricket fans gave David Warner a feisty reception or worse, whenever he played for his national team in the Western European country. The left-handed batter had a spat with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members at Lord’s in London two years ago during the Ashes Test match after Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in controversial circumstances.
If they want to boo me, boo me, but don't boo the team or anything like that: David Warner
During his recent interview, David Warner was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “I actually want them to come at Australians. I love that stuff. That's what gets me going. If they want to boo me, boo me, but don't boo the team or anything like that.” Since David Warner is set to play for London Spirit, who are based at Lord’s in London, it will be interesting to see how the MCC members and the general public will react when he steps onto the field for the first-time as a player of the franchise.
When asked about the same scenario, the former international cricketer said, “We just have to wait until I step foot on that park. Then we'll see how the reception is. I'll have to walk past the Long Room first to get to the changing room. I'm really looking forward to going back there. We're there for the London Spirit. We're not there playing for the Australian cricket team.”
“Most importantly I've got to work out if the Lord's lunches are the same for the Hundred as for internationals,” he added.
