Ilia Topuria called out Conor McGregor after he took down Alexander Volkanovski to become the fifth fighter in UFC history to be crowned undisputed featherweight Champion. The Spaniard took a hook on Volkonavski’s face in the main event in California, dropping Alexander to the ground. It quickly ended the game, and the shocked UFC world got a new featherweight champion.
Topuria extended his unbeaten record to 15-0, and as soon as he won the bout, he called out The Notorious. The 27-year-old said, “It’s time to take UFC to Spain and Conor McGregor if you still have some b***s, I’ll be waiting for you in Spain.” Not only this, but he also expressed gratitude after winning and said, “Look at me, Look at me now. I know my skills, I worked so hard for this. I knew one day I would be the UFC World Champion. Guys, it doesn’t matter where you come from if you know where you are going. It’s much more important what’s in front of you than what’s behind.”
Who said I want to fight him at 145?: Topuria responds to Dana White’s comments
Ilia Topuria responded to UFC President Dana White’s comments, where he said that the Irishman would certainly never fight in a featherweight category. White was answering questions regarding McGregor’s comeback after Topuria called him out after UFC 298 win. The newly-crowned champion was in a media conference where he was told about White’s comments about McGregor’s unlikely to return to featherweight.
The young fighter replied, “Who said I want to fight him at 145?” He added, “Any weight limit. There is no weight if I fight him. He can choose. I give him that option. If he feels that he is ready for this level of competition, he can choose the weight. I choose the place." Recently, White announced the highly anticipated clash of the card with Alex Pereira locking horns against former champion Jamahal Hill.
