Football legend Pele has responded to reports about his deteriorating health. While reports had emerged on December 3 that the Brazilian has stopped responding to chemotherapy and had to be moved to the end-of-life care unit in the hospital, Pele has insisted that he is doing well in his latest Instagram post.

"My friends, I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I'm strong, with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual. I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I have received," his Instagram post read.

"I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And watch Brazil in the World Cup too," it added.

"Thank you so much for everything," the 82-year-old wrote while concluding his post.

Notably, Pele was admitted to Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday with symptoms of ‘general swelling’ and ‘heart failure.’ Earlier in the week, the legendary footballer had assured his fans that his hospital visit was only ‘routine’ and that there was nothing serious to worry about.

In its official statement, however, the hospital said that Pele has been diagnosed with a respiratory infection.

"The medical team diagnosed a respiratory infection, which is being treated with antibiotics. The response has been adequate, and the patient, who remains in a common room, is stable, with general improvement in health status,” the hospital’s statement released before the reports of him being moved to palliative care read.
