The sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix presented Formula One fans with one of the most enthralling competition of the season between the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and Haas driver Mick Schumacher. The German youngster held Hamilton for a long time with great precision and ability.

But despite having an incredible pace, Schumacher couldn’t past his teammate Kevin  Magnussen. The 23-year-old was in DRS range with his Danish counterpart but Magnussen decided to move a second ahead to take away the advantage. Schumacher was visibly upset during his post-sprint interview as he said, “I think it’s something to be discussed, but obviously I think the battle with Lewis was fun but in the first place it shouldn’t have happened. In some ways I was quite a bit quicker,  so…”

Then the interviewer asked the German about a possible swap with his teammate. To Schumacher replied “Yeah.” Then the reporter asked him whether he had a conversation with his team about it on the radio. Schumacher said, “Yeah.”

The Haas driver also talked about his battle with Lewis Hamilton but deemed it unnecessary. “I think that the fight with Lewis was quite fun,” said Schumacher. “I think it was surprising to see that we were able to fight him that long and also the Red Bull behind us [of Sergio Perez] wasn’t massively quicker, so yeah, a nice feeling. I think that we could have had points today but for some reason or another we weren’t allowed to do that, so something to be discussed.”

But Schumacher’s day got far worse as he was then reminded of getting a potential penalty he could be receiving for a starting procedure infringement. Schumacher was not entirely sure what he was being investigated for.

“We’ll see,” Schumacher said. “There’s one thing I could think of which was I did a burnout and was in front of Kevin, but then I let him through. Other than that, I don’t really know if there’s anything I did wrong. I don’t think so. Maybe I was out of position again.” The Genolier-born will start the feature race in ninth place.
