After missing out on the last two Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Australian skipper Pat Cummins is all set to miss the ODI leg of the India tour. The update was confirmed on Tuesday morning (March 14) by Cricket Australia.

The 29-year-old whose mother Maria Cummins passed away during the fourth Test of the series, left India after the conclusion of the second Test. He was later ruled out of the fourth and final Test of the series to be with his family and mother who was under palliative care after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Pat won’t be coming back, he’s still taking care of what’s happened back home,” coach Andrew McDonald said. “Our thoughts are with Pat and his family as they go through that grieving process,” he added.

Steve Smith to return as ODI captain after 5 years

With Pat Cummins absence, Steven Smith will continue to lead at the helm in the three-match ODI series. Smith earlier led Australia to their first win in the series (3 rd  Test) followed by drawing the final Test. However, the visitors failed to clinch the Border Gavaskar Trophy, with India winning it for the fourth time.
