After a win in the T20I series, India also had a convincing start to the ODI series after winning the first ODI of a three-match series against England at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. In the first ODI, the hosts defeated England by four wickets to take a lead of 1-0 in the series. Batting first, England were bowled out for 248 runs with Harshit Rana taking 3 scalps in his debut ODI match. After that, Shubman Gill went on to score 87 runs as India chased the winning target in 38.4 overs. 

Coming to bat first after winning the toss, England got a flying start as Phil Salt (43 off 26) and Ben Ducket (32 off 29) put up an opening partnership of 75 runs in 8.5 overs. After that, the Indian bowler made a comeback as England were restricted at 111/4 in 18.3 overs. After that skipper Jos Buttler took charge of the innings added 59 runs with Jacob Bethall for the fourth wicket. Bethall got out after scoring 51(64) runs, Buttler played a captain’s knock of 52(67) runs. However, the lower order couldn’t contribute much as England were bowled out under 250 runs in 47.4 overs. For India, Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja took three scalps each, while Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Mohammed Shami scalped a wicket each

Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer come as saviours after early breakthroughs as India register convincing win

Coming to chase the winning target, India got a poor start as both the openers: Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were back to the pavilion at the score of 19 runs in 5.2 overs. After that, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer took charge of the innings as the duo put up a partnership of 94 runs for the third wicket. Iyer got out after scoring 59(36) runs with nine fours and two sixes . After that, Axar Patel joined Gill at the crease as they both added another 108 runs before the fall for the fourth wicket. 

Axar Patel got out after scoring 52(47) runs hitting six fours and a six. Nearing his hundred, Shubman Gill also got out after scoring 87(95) runs with 14 boundaries but assured that India were way ahead of England in the game. After that, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja gave finishing touches as India chased the target with 11.2 overs left losing six wicket.
