The Day 1 of the first Test between India and New Zealand has been called off due to persistent rain and wet outfield at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The first match of a three-match Test series between India and New Zealand was set to be played in Bengaluru from October 16 to 20, however, even the toss couldn’t take place on day 1. Now, the game will proceed on Day 2 where the toss is scheduled to take place at 8:45 am, while the match will start on 9:15 am.
There was prediction of rain on all five days of the Bengaluru Test. As both India and New Zealand reached the stadium to kickstart the series, there was a delay in the toss due to persistent rain. The rain stopped at 12:35 PM and the covers were off. However, the rain returned to play the spoilsport again at 1 PM. Around 2:30 PM, the match officials decided to call off day one.
Fans express disappointment after another Test match gets spoiled due to rain
New Zealand haven’t been able to play a single ball on their ongoing India tour since last month. The visitors were scheduled to play a one-off Test against Afghanistan in Noida from September 9 to 13. However, all five days were washed out due to rain and wet outfield. After that, New Zealand played two Test matches against Sri Lanka and came back to India for a three-match Test series against the hosts.
Now, New Zealand have to wait one more day to begin their India tour. On the other hand, India have also become a part of back-to-back second Test being affected by rain. They played their second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur where not a single ball was bowled on the second and third day of the match. However, India still managed to win that match in remaining two days.
Now, the day one of the first Test against New Zealand is also washed out and fans took to social media to hail Team India being used to it and can win a match in just two days. Check out how fans reacted to it:
