England have bounced back beautifully in the five-match Test series against India, thanks to their comprehensive victory at Headingley. The series is now levelled at 1-1 with two matches to go. The hosts outplayed the Indians in the first innings of the third Test as they bowled them out for 78 and then scored 432, handing Virat Kohli & Co. a trail of 354 runs. Though the visitors fought back in the second innings, their first innings collapse kept them out of the game.
India got bowled for 278 in their second innings in the game at Headingley to lose by an innings and 76 runs. After a dominating victory by England, former skipper of the national team, Michael Vaughan, heaped praise on his side. However while doing so, the outspoken man termed India as "useless" in regard of the match.
A few days to forget for India: Vaughan
Vaughan took to Twitter to write: “Fantastic ruthless performance from England .. that’s as good as it gets .. To do that after Lords shows great character which comes from the Skipper .. India !!!!! A few days to forget .. they really have been useless !!! #ENGvIND (sic)."
India almost bagged the first game at Trent Bridge before rain forced a draw, and won the second match at Lords by 151 runs amid the heated environment. Given that the guests had been dominating in the series by then, the latest win for Joe Root and his men will definitely boost the morale of the home side. Vaughan also lauded the England skipper and coach Chris Silverwood after their victory. “It’s mental strength and character, Joe Root and Chris Silverwood have done a good job over the last few days," he said speaking on the BBC Test Match Special.
India looking to bounce back in next match
After the embarrassing loss at Headingley, Indian skipper Virat Kohli reflected on his team’s batting and praised England for making good decisions. The skipper also expressed that they would take a call whether to play second spinner in the next match after assessing the pitch conditions. However, Kohli also asserted the importance of a fourth seamer to put pressure on the opposition’s batting, especially in the English conditions.
