India’s star shuttler HS Prannoy lost in the quarterfinal of Taipei Open 2023 and bowed out of the Super 300 tournament on Friday. The World Number 9 Indian went down to Hong Kong’s fifth seeded Ng Ka Long Angus 19-21, 8-21 in the Round of 16. With Prannoy’s defeat, India ended their campaign in the ongoing tournament on Friday, June 23. Prannoy and his rival clashed against each other with a 6-5 head-to-head record.

Though India’s lone survivor at the Taipei Open lost the first game with a narrow difference, the margin between them eventually widened in the second game, and the Indian shuttler crumbled. In the Indonesia Open earlier this month, Prannoy had defeated Ng in straight games in the Round of 16. With his win in the first game, the other half eventually became a breezer for the Hong Kong shuttler as he gained a 7-2 lead before getting a 17-8 lead in the game. The Hong Kong shuttler will now face Taipei's Su Li Yiang in the semi-final.

India had fielded seven players in men’s singles, and among them only Prannoy managed to get past the first round. India senior shuttler Parupalli Kashyap went down to Su Lu Yiang in the second round. Other than him, Mithun Manjunath lost to 2nd seed Chou Tien Chen in the opening round by 18-21, 21-14, 16-21.
