When the Indian cricket team were spotted wearing the orange training kit in the build-up to the ODI World Cup 2023, some reports claimed that they might switch to these colours for the upcoming clash against Pakistan. But, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) has come out to deny the reports of Team India using the alternate kit, to be auctioned for UNESCO fund collection.
Notably, any change to the playing kit from a team during the ODI World Cup 2023 can happen only with the prior approval of the International Cricket Council (ICC). In the history of the ICC events, there have been sporadic occasions when teams have worn alternate kits as part of the home and away concept, most notably in the previous edition of the flagship tournament.
As per the report for Indian Express, the Treasurer of the BCCI, Ashish Shelar denied any plans about India using the orange kit, while stating they will stick to wearing the blue kit. It is going to be the case in the ODI World Cup 2023, starting on October 8, Sunday, with a high stakes matchup against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
“We categorically dismiss the media reports that Team India will be donning an alternative match kit against Pakistan. These reports are absolutely baseless and a work of someone’s imagination. The Men in Blue will sport India colours – Blue at ICC Cricket World Cup 2023,” Ashish Shelar was quoted as saying.
During the ODI World Cup 2019, India had worn the alternate kit, an orange coloured jersey against the hosts England, by virtue of being the away team of the match at the Edgbaston in Nottingham. In the same event, South Africa had to use the yellow jersey against Pakistan in their round robin match too.
