India had totally outplayed the depleted Sri Lanka side in 1st Test match as they ended up winning the game by an innings and 222 runs. India winning the toss, opted to bat first and posted a big total of 574/8 with the help of Rishabh Pant's quick-fire 96, Ravindra Jadeja's terrific knock of 175* and Ashwin's 61. Ravindra Jadeja had 100-run partnership with Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami which helped boosting the total of India to a bigger score and this lower order batting trio of India helped them to gain a significant momentum against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka in reply got off to a good start in their 1st innings but the Lankan batters lost their wickets after getting that start unfortunately as batsmen like Karunaratne and Mathews got out to LBW on umpires call. At the end of day 2, Sri Lanka's score read 108/4 in the 1st innings. Unexpectedly on day 3 of the Test match, Sri Lanka quickly ended up losing all the wickets. Once again rockstar Ravindra Jadeja was the villain of Sri Lanka as he ended up taking five wickets in that innings.
Sri Lanka were enforced follow-on by India as they were trailing by a huge margin of 400 runs and in the 2nd innings Lankan batters got bundled out cheaply by falling trap to the spin web of Ashwin-Jadeja and it meant that they encountered a humiliating loss against India.
