Preview:

Indian Super League will be up for some serious action when former league winners FC Goa clash against this season’s shield winners Mumbai City in the first-leg of the semifinals on Friday. Both the sides have entertained with attacking football this season, and therefore, it will be fair to expect a heated contest between the sides. While Mumbai City will enter the contest after securing ISL shield in decider against ATK Mohun Bagan, FC Goa will take on field after beating Hyderabad in their last league game.

The first-leg of a semi-final knockout is crucial as most instances have shown that the winners of first leg are more likely to go forward. Moreover, entering the second leg with lead in hand is never a bad idea as it gives confidence to the squad and lets them play calmly.

Team News

FC Goa:

Entering in the game, FC Goa will be missing Alberto Noguera for the clash against Mumbai City, as the midfielder collected a red card in game against Hyderabad. Ferrando will field his best lineup in an attempt to get most out of his side’s attacking prowess against another attacking team. While all the attackers have played a pivotal role in Goa’s success till now, one should specially keep an eye on Igor Angulo, the team’s top-scorer with 13 league goals.

Mumbai City:

The Islanders will have everyone available in their ranks for the crucial game. Lobera has successfully managed to implement his philosophy in the squad. Analysis:

Both the teams have already clashed twice this season with exciting outcomes. While the first clash was won by Mumbai by 1-0, the second clash saw an action packed 3-3 draw with Ishan Pandita getting the late equalizer. For the high voltage clash this time, Lobera will make sure that none of their players jump into slide tackles when Goa attack as that might lead to suspension for second leg. Last time out as well, Hugo Boumous was given the marching order and that costed Mumbai two points.

It will be recommended to get players who show maximum presence in the attacking third. However, if in case users feel the game to be of narrow margin, it is advised to have second team just the opposite of the first one, that is, filled with maximum players from defensive third.
