The top-tier league of Women’s football in India, the Indian Women’s League is back after almost a year, this time in Ahmedabad. This will be the sixth edition of the Indian Women’s League. Gokulam Kerala is the defending champions after defeating Sethu FC in the title decider on May 26 last year. 


Gokulam Kerala is also the only team in the tournament to win the title twice. Ngangom Bala Devi from Odisha FC is the leading goal scorer in the league with 38 goals to her name. 16 teams will be featured in this year’s IWL. Teams are allowed to sign three overseas players with a maximum of two permitted on the field during the match. The season will kick off with Gokulam FC locking horns with East Bengal FC in the opening game.

What is the format for the Indian Women’s League 2023?
The league stage will be played in the round-robin format, which means that each team will play against every other team in the group once. The top four teams from each team will then qualify for the knockouts which will consist of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. The eight qualified teams will be directly included in the next season of the IWL.

The Indian Women’s League 2023 will be played across two grounds in Ahmedabad, namely TransStadia and the Shahibaug Police Ground.

The Indian Women’s League 2023 is scheduled to be played from Wednesday, April 26. The matches will begin at 8:00 AM IST and 4:30 PM IST. The league stage will go on till May 13. The schedule for the knockout stages has not been announced by the association yet.
