Preview

Both these arch-European rivals are coming into this contest having won their respective FIFA World Cup Qualifying games 3-1 previously. Spain beat Bernard Challandes’ Kosovo in April, whereas Portugal got the better of Luxembourg in March.

After the end of an enthralling 2020-21 club season, this will be big clash for both these teams before heading for their UEFA EURO 2020 campaigns. Talking about the head-to-head comparison between both the teams, Spain has clearly dominated in the 37 games, winning 17 and losing just 4.

Key Players

Team News

Spain

For Spain, we could witness potential debuts for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and newly acquired Aymeric Laporte. While some experience will be required in the form of Jordi Alba, Sergio Bosquets and Thiago Alcantara.

Portugal

Talking about Portugal, they have a plethora of superstars to play on each position, be it Bruno Fernandes and Bernando Silva in the center or Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro at the back. Portugal have a strong attack with in-form Diogo Jota paired with Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the field.

Analysis

With Portugal having the more experienced and attacking side, expect them to dominate excessive amount of possession, while taking shots from distance. With Ronaldo already having his morale up after fetching the top scorer award in Serie A, he would be hungry for more goals and will be eager to hit some shots from distance. While Bruno and Silva would look to find their best form.

On the other hand, Spain’s best chance to emerge victorious from this game is to feed from gaps in the Portugal’s center line, with all players having an offensive mindset. With young players like Ferran Torres and Gerard Moreno, Spain would hope to catch Portugal on the counter-attack.
