Earlier this month, IPL was deferred indefinitely due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country and breach in the tournament's bio-bubble. Many players and staff returned to their respective homeland after a few days following the declaration of IPL suspension.
However, due to the strict restriction by the Australian government, the Australian contingent was not able to return to their native place. They were shifted to the Maldives until the restrictions were lifted. In a recent development, the group of 38 Australians (players, commentators and media personnel) will be able to take a charter flight back to Sydney via Malaysia on 16th May, where they would serve their 14-day mandatory quarantine.
While addressing the matter, Cricket Australia's chief executive, Nick Hockley, said, "The BCCI is putting in place the best possible arrangements. We're not seeking any kind of special exemptions whatsoever".
"Our main priority is we would work with the Australian government and the relevant state governments to make sure that we're not taking spaces of anyone else that's available. So, you know, certainly, that's what we're committed to do." He added.
