Since its inception, the Indian Premier League has been a source of entertainment to cricket fans all around the world. With the guarantee of close finishes and nail-biting moments, the tournament is surrounded by controversies as well. In a big tournament like the IPL, each team/ player wants to excel in their craft and has a desperate urge to secure the victory.

In this attempt, the players are involved in a spat with their counterparts or their teammates. The decisions of the umpires also has a key role to decide the outcome of the match, and if it’s not in the favour of the respective player, they express their dissent in their own way.

We bring to you seven of such instances which caught limelight during the ongoing IPL 2022.

1. Marcus Stoinis outburst in LSG vs RCB match

In a chase of 182 against RCB, LSG needed 34 off 12 balls, with Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder at the crease. On the first ball of the over, Stoinis shuffled from his crease, while Hazlewood delivered a yorker just beside the tramline, which was presumed as a wide, but the umpire signaled it as a legal ball, which left the all-rounder fuming. On the next ball, he tried to slog sweep, but the ball brushed the pads and rattled the stumps and he displayed his angry reaction towards the umpire for his wrong decision.

2. Rishabh Pant’s animatic reaction in DC vs RR clash

With 36 needed off 6 balls, it certainly required magic for Delhi Capitals to win the game. The Caribbean batter Rovman Powell had other plans, wherein he hit 3 consecutive sixes in the first 3 balls off Obed McCoy. However, the third ball was a doubtful one, with chances of being it a no-ball due to the height. DC captain Rishabh Pant tried to call the batters into the dugout, due to the umpires not going upstairs for a review of the ball, which could have provided them a chance to win the game. As a result of this reaction, Pant was fined 100 percent of his match fee.

3. Heated spat between Harshal Patel and Riyan Parag in RR vs RCB clash

In Match 39 of the ongoing season against RCB, Riyan Parag hit an unbeaten half-century to help RR post a respectable total of 144 on the board. In the last over of the innings, the youngster tonked 18 runs off Harshal Patel, which included 2 sixes. After the completion of the over, as the players were making their way back to the pavilion, both the players were involved in a heated spat, due to unknown reasons. After the match as well, Patel refused to shake hands with Parag.

4. Hardik hurling abuses at Shami in SRH vs GT game

The GT captain Hardik Pandya was delivering the 13th over of the 2nd innings against SRH to defend 162. In this over, he was hit for 2 consecutive sixes by Kane Williamson. In the last ball of the over, Rahul Tripathi opened the face of the bat off the bouncer, which was a catching opportunity for the third-man fielder, Mohammed Shami, but he could not give his 100% effort. After seeing the lethargic fielding, Pandya hurled abuses at Shami due to the pressure built by two sixes.

5. Iyer vs Iyer in KKR vs RR

In a game against RR, the KKR captain Shreyas Iyer lost his cool and vent his angry reaction to Venkatesh Iyer in the 16th over of the innings. After Venkatesh hit a ball towards the deep point, Shreyas saw an opportunity for a double, and Venkatesh also responded positively to the captain. However, when Shreyas was at the middle of the pitch, the southpaw denied a double, and the former reached the crease just on time. In an immediate reaction, he shouted at his partner.

6. Jadeja furious with Shivam Dube in CSK vs GT match

One of the finest games in the IPL 2022 season was between GT and CSK, with the former winning on the back of heroics from David Miller and Rashid Khan. However, in the 17th over, CSK got an opportunity to dismiss Miller, when he mistimed a pull shot, which was an easy opportunity for Shivam Dube at the deep mid-wicket boundary. But, Dube was late to arrive and could not judge the trajectory, which left Ravindra Jadeja furious as he threw his cap in frustration.

7. Virat Kohli’s angry reaction after getting out to Dewald Brevis in RCB vs MI clash

In Match 18 between RCB and MI, the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli was again a witness to the terrible decision made by the on-field and third umpire. It all transpired in the 18th over, when the match was down and out, but Kohli was adjudged LBW off the youngster Dewald Brevis, who bowled his first ball of this season. It was termed as a wrong decision, with the ball hitting the pad and bat simultaneously, and the decision needed to be overturned, according to the laws. But, the decision remained the same, and Kohli smashed his bat into the ground on his way back to the pavilion.
