After winning the toss, Gujarat Titans opted to bowl first and restricted Lucknow to 158/6 after 20 overs. Initially, Mohammed Shami was breathing fire with the ball as he picked 3 key wickets of KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey inside powerplay itself. When Lucknow were struggling at 32/4, Ayush Badoni and Deepak Hooda's fifty-plus scores helped them post a decent total on board. 22 year old Ayush Badoni played an eye-catching innings to please the cricket lovers on his IPL debut itself. Krunal Pandya gave a decent finishing touch (unbeaten 21 from 13 balls) to the innings post that 87 run partnership between Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni.

While chasing, Gujarat also struggled initially as they lost Shubman Gill for a duck and Vijay Shankar early on. Shankar was dismissed after a stunning delivery bowled by Dushmantha Chameera cleaned the former. Matthew Wade and Hardik Pandya's partnership helped team's cause to keep the hopes intact but it was Rahul Tewatia and Killer Miller's partnership which majorly changed the course of the match. 60 runs partnership from 34 balls between Tewatia-Miller and an excellent finish from Abhinav Sadarangani (unbeaten 15 from 7 balls) helped Gujarat Titans defeat Lucknow by 5 wickets.
