Match 70 - Prediction of the game

0:

Hyderabad and Punjab will face off in the last league match of the Indian Premier League. While this game will change nothing as far as the Playoff equation is concerned with the fourth and the final team in the Playoffs set to be decided after the match between Mumbai and Delhi on Saturday, both franchises would nonetheless want to end the tournament on a high.

For now, these two sides have 12 points from 13 matches. Ahead of match number 70 of this edition, here is a look at a stat-based prediction of which team might come out on top in the end.

1. Toss Prediction

It would be interesting to see who walks out for the toss for Hyderabad who have had an impressive record with tosses in this IPL with their captain Kane Williamson winning 7 tosses in a row, to begin with. While they did lose a few in the second half, Punjab have had terrible luck with tosses and so Hyderabad are predicted to win the toss.

2. Win Possibility

Hyderabad have absolutely dominated this rivalry. The two teams have met a total of 19 teams in the past and while the Orange Army have won 13 of these matches, the remaining six times Punjab have emerged victorious. Moreover, even when the two teams' met earlier in the season, it was Hyderabad who registered a win by 7 wickets. So based on these stats, Hyderabad are predicted to win.

However, this would be a different ballgame with no Kane Williamson as the leader a Punjab side strengthened by the inclusion of Mayank Agarwal and an in-form Jonny Bairstow - both of whom were not part of Punjab XI in that match.

3. Team of the Day

The Team of the Day on numbers is Hyderabad. Moreover, while Hyderabad managed to break their five-match losing streak in their last match with their win over Mumbai, Punjab are coming on the back of a defeat.

4. Powerplay Score

The average powerplay score at Wankhede has been just over 40 in IPL 2022. However, both teams are expected to cross that mark in the first six overs in this fixture. The new-look did well for Hyderabad in the last match and Bairstow at the top has done well for Punjab so. Hence, both teams should be able to score at more than 6.66 runs an over while the fielding restrictions are on.

5. Average first & second innings score

167.68 is the average first innings score at this venue in IPL 2022 before the Delhi-Mumbai game. The average second innings score here this season has been 161.52.
