IPL 2021 runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the curtain-raiser of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Kolkata-based franchise had performed really well in the second half of the last season to turn their fortunes around and make it to the final. However, they released their captain Eoin Morgan and now will be led by Shreyas Iyer.
The two-time champions had retained four players including Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy. At the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, they managed to get back some of their players from the last edition. Pat Cummins, Nitish Rana, Shivam Mavi, and Rinku Singh were bought back by the franchise allowing them to retain the core.
