The Indian Premier League will be seen in a new avatar from next year. Not only is it going to become a 10-team affair but the players are all set to get shuffled up between the teams at the mega auctions ahead of IPL 2022. It is being learned that prior to sitting at the auction table, the old teams will have the option of retaining four players. Meanwhile, the additional new franchises - Lucknow and Ahmedabad - will get three early picks for new teams.

It is the process for these retentions for the old eight franchises that starts today and this is the place to be to get all updates in one place.

It's been an action-packed day with all the franchises finally announcing the players they are retaining for next season. From some expected ones to real shockers, we finally know the list of 27 players who will continue at the same franchises. While the future of 6 more players is set to be confirmed by December 25, the rest of players are all set to go under the hammer in meg auctions.

Former RCB captain Virat Kohli told that he had no second thoughts when he was approached by the franchise to be retained by INR 15 crores. The 33-year-old said that a different version could be seen on the field next season and we will be there with his heart and soul.

09:50 PM: It's not a bad strategy: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra opined that RCB's strategy to retain only 3 players might work in their favour as they will have a huge sum of INR 57 crores left for the mega auctions. But could the franchise have retained either Yuzvendra or Harshal? Well, only time will tell if it's a good decision or not.

09:47 PM: We had 6-7 players that we wished to retain: Hesson

Mike Hesson reflected on the IPL retentions and revealed that they decided to retain only 3 players as they wanted to ensure more flexibility for them in mega auctions.

09:42 PM: Purse remaining for MI and RCB

Having spent INR 42 crores on retaining 4 players, Mumbai Indians now have INR 48 crores left in purse for the mega auctions. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore spent INR 33 crores and will have INR 57 crores for the IPL 2022 auction.

09:25 PM: Who will be CSK's first retention?

It is almost confirmed that CSK's four retentions would be MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. However, it had been reported that MSD is not keen to become their first retention as he wants others to get better deals. In this case, will Ravindra Jadeja be CSK's 1st retention for INR 16 crores?

The social media admin of Rajasthan Royals has been retained by the franchise. Earlier in the day, the hilarious post on franchise's official twitter page had gone viral before the CEO of RR later confirmed that they are not letting go of their social media admin.

07:30 PM: Is it end of the road for Rashid and SRH?

If the latest reports are to be believed, the answer is YES! The negotiations between the two parties have stalled and Rashid Khan is set to be released by Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, it's very unlikely that the leg-spinner will go to mega auctions with two new franchises getting a chance to sign him under 'special picks' rule.

07:15 PM: Buttler and Yashasvi to continue with RR

Rajasthan Royals have decided to retain Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal for IPL 2022 according to Espncricinfo. Sanju Samson was franchise's first retention for INR 14 crores, with Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to be retained for INR 10 crores and INR 4 crores each.

07:10 PM: Big dilemma for RCB

With Mohammed Siraj being their 3rd retention, RCB are now left with only one slot for retention. Considering the fact that the fourth retained player gets a salary of INR 6 crores, the negotiation process won't be easy with the trio of Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel and Devdutt Padikkal, who could get a better deal in mega auctions.

06:45 PM: Will Mayank Agarwal be the captain of Punjab Kings?

With KL Rahul leaving and Mayank Agarwal getting retained, there is also a possibility that Punjab Kings might be looking at Mayank as their captain going forward. The Karnataka batsman has led the franchise in past when Rahul was out of action for match against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. Notably, Mayank had led brilliantly from the front, playing a breathtaking knock of 99*.

06:25 PM: Umran Malik and Abdul Samad likely to be retained by SRH

With Kane Williamson set to be retained and Rashid Khan missing out, it has been reported by Cricbuzz that SRH are likely to retain the uncapped duo of Umran Malik and Abdul Samad for IPL 2022. The three players will cost a total of INR 22 crores to the franchise.

06:15 PM: Mohammed Siraj becomes RCB's 3rd retention

After Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, RCB have confirmed their third retention in form of Mohammed Siraj (according to Espncricinfo). The franchise has now one spot remaining which is likely to be clinched by one out of the following three players: Yuzvendra Chahal, Devdutt Padikkal or Harshal Patel.

06:10 PM: Mayank and Arshdeep retained by Punjab Kings

Amid reports that Punjab Kings might not retain any player, the franchise has stunned everyone by retaining the Indian duo of Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh (according to Espncricinfo). Notably, Mayank is likely to cost them around INR 14 crores while Arshdeep’s services will be secured for INR 4 crores since he is an uncapped player.

05:55 PM: Surprise from MI as Suryakumar Yadav is set to be retained ahead of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya

Big surprise from the five-time champions. It was being learnt that MI might stick with Ishan Kishan but now we are hearing that Surykumar Yadav is all set to be retained ahead of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya. Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard are already more or less confirmed picks.

04:20 PM: Official deadline is 5 pm IST

It is being learnt that the BCCI has asked the franchises to submit the list of franchises by 4 PM IST. However, the official deadline is at 5 PM IST. An early time has been provided so that it allows broadcasters to shoot the programme in time.

03:20 PM: Kane Williamson is set to be retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad

However, leg-spinner Rashid Khan will miss out. As was reported earlier, Rashid wanted to be the first retention pick for the franchise but that was not agreed upon.

02:25 PM:  RR post a hilarious tweet this morning

The Rajasthan Royals Twitter handle posted a hilarious tweet as the admin of the page wondered whether he/she will be retained at the first place.

11:50 AM: Will Yashasvi Jaiswal be retained by RR?

It will be interesting to see whether Yashasvi Jaiswal is retained by the Men in Pink as he is a young player and the team could reap immense benefits in the future. But seems like it won't happen as the team has decided to go ahead with skipper Sanju Samson along with Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes.

11:05 AM: Kolkata Knight Riders to retain Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer! That's the big update coming in other than the Mumbai Indians who will keep Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah with two other names set to be unveiled today.

November 30, 2021- DEADLINE DAY is here and the official announcements will be made today

11:10 PM: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah set to be retained by Mumbai Indians

IPL retention deadline is closing at 12pm IST on Tuesday and many franchises are still figuring out which player to retain. Ahead of the big day, it has been reported that Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have been retained by Mumbai Indians. The remaining two players are likely to be named tomorrow.

05:10 PM: Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell retention picks for Royal Challengers Bangalore

Virat Kohli was a no-brainer for Royal Challengers Bangalore and now it seems like Glenn Maxwell is also set to be retained by the franchise. Devdutt Padikkal could be the other name on their radar but let's wait for a confirmation on that with the senior players- the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal already in the team

02:30 PM: Lucknow and Ahmedabad allotted a budget of 33 crores to pick three players each

The two new franchises will get an allotted budget of INR 33 crores to pick three players before the auctions. The time frame given to them is from December 1 to December 25.

01:05 PM: Boult, Bumrah or both? Bumrah seems to be leading the race

A post from the official broadcaster asked Mumbai Indians fans to choose between Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult for retention. Bumrah being a local Indian player has the advantage and is almost certain of being retained by the five-time champions.

11:10 AM: BCCI consults Solicitor General of India on CVC Sports matter

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly consulted the Solicitor General of India on the CVC Sports Matter. Notably, despite bidding the highest amount of INR 5625 crores, it is being claimed in a Cricbuzz report that they have not received a Letter of Intent from the BCCI. The matter is regarding the betting business which they are involved in and its legality under the Indian jurisdiction.

November 29, 10:40 AM: Retention Deadline for existing eight teams could be extended: Reports

The retention deadline for the existing eight IPL teams which is currently on November 30 could be extended to allow both new franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow equal number of days to choose their retention picks. The same was claimed in a Cricbuzz report. No confirmation as yet.

10:00 PM: Good Night!

A lot of predictions, so many speculations but no official confirmations - This is what Sunday was all about! However, things are expected to get interesting as we move one day closer to IPL 2022 retention event.

9:50 PM: Faf du Plessis will take over from Dhoni during next season: Doull

"When MS Dhoni decides to play his final game, Faf du Plessis will take over the captaincy in April-May next year. That's my thinking and I don't think MS Dhoni will play the full season. Faf du Plessis will take over from him. But there will be a home game where they will announce it will be MSD's last game and Faf will take over from there," Simon Doull told Star Sports.

It is actually quite an interesting claim by the former Kiwi pacer as reports suggest that du Plessis might actually be released by the franchise with Moeen Ali likely to be the preferred choice.

9:35 PM: Timings of IPL 2022 retention event

The IPL 2022 retention event is scheduled to be broadcast live on Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar on 30th November. The show, where the list of retained players of all the franchises will be officially announced, will begin from IST 5 PM onwards.

9:00 PM: Will SRH retain any uncapped player?

There have been reports that SRH are only looking at options of retaining Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan only. However, they do have a few exciting young talents like Abdul Samad, Umran Malik etc. who can be retained for INR 4 crores each as they are uncapped domestic players.

8:25 PM: Aakash Chopra reveals his choice between SKY or Kishan 

“It’s a tough one. I feel Suryakumar Yadav is a more versatile player who can bat lower down the order as well. He is a little more experienced player. Ishan Kishan is more explosive. My personal vote will be for Suryakumar Yadav," Aakash told Star Sports.

7:45 PM: Pathan gives his opinion on CSK's dilemma

"The fourth one? Sometime back I was thinking about Faf du Plessis, he is 37-year-old. You don’t wanna let go of an all-rounder, either it’s Sam Curran or Moeen Ali. I would go with Moeen Ali for the fourth spot,” said Pathan while speaking to Star Sports.

7:00 PM: Pathan wants KKR to retain both Gill and Iyer

According to Irfan Pathan, Kolkata Knight Riders should retain Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer.

6:10 PM: Will RR retain Liam Livingstone?

Liam Livingstone is one of the most talked about players in world right now due to his consistent all-round performances across various leagues. With RR concerned about the fitness of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, would they be looking at the option of retaining Livingstone alongside Buttler?

The Englishman has certainly pushed his case with his all-round performances in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 League, as he registered another brilliant spell of bowling (3/17 in 2 overs) on Sunday.

5:25 PM: What about Punjab Kings?

One of the franchises that find themselves in a very tricky situation ahead of mega auctions is Punjab Kings. With their captain KL Rahul likely to depart, it seems like the team will have to re-build themselves from scratch once again.

There have been a lot of uncertainties around the franchise's retentions while some reports also claim that they might not retain any player. However, there is a possibility that they might go for uncapped players like Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi or Shahrukh Khan. Notably, a franchise can retain a maximum of two uncapped players.

4:45 PM: Moeen Ali likely to be CSK's 4th retention

As per reports, CSK have been pondering about their overseas retention with the available options of Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and Faf du Plessis. However, it looks likely that Moeen Ali is going to be their 4th retention apart from the trio of Dhoni, Jadeja and Gaikwad.

3:50 PM: Hardik and Dhawan on radar of new franchises

Hardik Pandya, who looks likely to be released by Mumbai Indians, is reportedly on radar of new Ahmedabad franchise. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan is also one of the players who is being looked upon by the two new sides for special picks.

3:10 PM: For what amount will MS Dhoni be retained?

While it is almost confirmed that Chennai Super Kings are set to retain MS Dhoni for next season, there have been reports that Thala does not wish to be franchise's first retention. The 40-year-old reportedly wants other players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja to get mega contracts ahead of him. It will hence be quite interesting to see the amount that CSK actually decides to retain MSD for.

02:10 PM: Rajasthan Royals' retentions expected to be announced today

Although the deadline for all the franchises to announce their retentions is November 30, it has been reported that Rajasthan Royals will announce their list of retained players today itself.

Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler are expected to be retained, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. There is also a possibility that one out of Ben Stokes or Jofra Archer could also continue with the franchise. RR have a few more options and it will be quite interesting to see what they decide to do going ahead.

01:10 PM: Getting tough for SRH to retain Rashid Khan

Fresh reports suggest that it is getting tougher for SunRisers Hyderabad to retain star leg-spinner Rashid Khan. Kane Williamson seems more or less confirmed a retention place in the Orange Army. Nothing official before November 30 though.

12:10 PM: KS Bharat on RCB's radar for retention

We are hearing that KS Bharat has now suddenly come up as someone on the radar for Royal Challengers Bangalore as far as the player retention is concerned. He was superb behind the stumps in the ongoing Test match between India and New Zealand after coming to join the duties as a substitute keeper. He also played a couple of match-winning innings for the team in IPL 2021.

Irfan Pathan believes that Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya along with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah could be the 4 players that Mumbai Indians will retain ahead of 2022 IPL auctions.

"Among overseas players, it will be Kieron Pollard. No doubt about that; at least in my mind. I don’t know what Mumbai Indians are thinking. He is the guy that has won you games for so many years and consistently. His batting is still top-notch and is still the powerhouse when it comes to big-hitting as well as finishing the games," Pathan said on Star Sports.

"So, Pollard will definitely be on the radar. I would definitely go for Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya. I can actually name the other two guys as well. No. 1 would be Rohit Sharma and No. 2 would be Jasprit Bumrah," he added.

Former New Zealand medium-pacer Simon Doull believes that Punjab Kings should only retain Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh and look at rebuilding their team at the mega auctions. He made this remark while speaking on Star Sports.

12:20 PM: MS Dhoni does not want to be CSK's first retention: Reports

Recent reports have revealed that MS Dhoni does not want to be the franchises' first retention. This is because he does not want the team to spend INR 16 crores for himself which is what franchises will have to spend on their first one. The legendary India wicketkeeper-batter wants the CSK management to prefer another player who is worthy of being their top-earning player.

11:25 AM: Mumbai Indians interested in Shreyas Iyer

With Team India middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer heading for the player auction, it is being reported that five-time Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians are interested in picking Shreyas Iyer at the mega auction.

10:45 AM: Punjab to not retain any player?

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul has already decided to move out of the franchise. It has been learnt that Punjab are highly unlikely to retain any player ahead of the mega auction IPL 2022. They were interested to retain KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. However, Rahul’s decision to quit the franchise has forced them to change their plans completely.
