After winning the away ODI series 2-1 against Bangladesh, the reigning T20 World champions, England faced a shocking 3-0 clean sweep by the hosts in the T20I series. Will Jacks, who was bought for INR 3.2 crore at the player auction in December last year by the RCB, sustained a muscle injury while fielding in the second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur.
IPL released a statement on Saturday, "RCB have signed New Zealand's Michael Bracewell as a replacement for England batter Will Jacks for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Jacks, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, was bought by the franchise for Rs 3.2 crore."
The statement added, "His replacement, Bracewell, has played 16 T20Is, scored 113 runs and picked up 21 wickets. He will join RCB at his base price of Rs 1 crore."
RCB confirmed the news on their official Twitter handle:
Jacks made his England debuts in all three formats in 2023 as he received his maiden call up in the Three Lions squad for T20I and Test series against Pakistan before playing his first ODI against Bangladesh.
On the other hand, Bracewell, who failed to become a part of any franchise in the IPL auction after entering with a base price of Rs 1 crore, is set to make his IPL debut this year with the RCB. Meanwhile, RCB will open their IPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 2.
