On Sunday, April 14, Kolkata Knight Riders registered a comfortable eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in the 28th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With the fourth win in the first five matches of the season, KKR consolidated their second place in the IPL points table.

After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, decided to put the opposition into batting first. In the powerplay stage, Lucknow Super Giants lost a couple of wickets of Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda, which put them firmly on the backfoot in their batting innings.

KL Rahul, who was looking in reasonable touch, lost his wicket to Andre Russell after the halfway stage after scoring 39 off 27. Shortly after, Marcus Stoinis was back in the pavilion, reducing LSG to 95/4 in the 12th over, and under some trouble.

But, after walking out to bat at No. 6 in the order, the in-form Nicholas Pooran stayed at the crease till the last over, top scoring with 45 off 32, an inning which included two fours and four maximums. With his enterprising innings, Lucknow Super Giants posted 161/7 on the board after Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets, keeping themselves in the contest.

In the run chase for Kolkata Knight Riders, Mohsin Khan dismissed the in-form Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Sunil Narine in single digits, to put some early jitters in the home team dugout. But, then the captain Shreyas Iyer joined Phil Salt in the middle, and they stitched together a partnership of 120 runs, to put the contest beyond Lucknow Super Giants.

Phil Salt scored 89 runs off just 47 balls, hitting 14 fours and three maximums, while Shreyas Iyer got 38 off 38 with three fours. They stayed unbeaten to take KKR over the line against LSG in the IPL 2024, with 26 balls to spare.
