Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals faced their first defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Following the last-ball defeat in the 24th match of the ongoing IPL season, the Pink outfit also dealt with a slow over-rate penalty as skipper Samson was fined INR 12 lakhs.

The IPL stated on Thursday, "Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 11.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs."

Despite the loss, the inaugural IPL champions are placed at the top of the IPL 2024 points table with four wins in five matches followed by KKR and LSG at the second and third spots respectively. Apart from RR, KKR and LSG are the only teams that have lost just one game so far in the league.
