With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 reaching its penultimate stage, the Qualifier 2, which is being played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, June 1, saw a delayed start due to sudden showers. However, the match saw the toss take place at the scheduled timing, but quick showers disrupted the start and delayed it by over two hours.

Thereafter, the match successfully commenced after hours delay in Ahmedabad, but a rain threat continued to loom over the game, which proves pivotal as the team winning this fixture moves into the final, where they will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahemdabad on June 3. But before we move ahead, the biggest question which comes into several minds is how many overs are required to get a result in the game?

How many overs are required to get a result in a cricket match?

With the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 resuming after two hours and 15 minutes delay, luckily did not see any reduction in overs. But with still overcast conditions prevalent, the game could see a halt anytime. Although, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has kept a provision of 120 minutes for the playoff matches, but a five-over game is a must to draw a result in a fixture.

Speaking of the ongoing match between PBKS and MI, the former skipper, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first. Soon after coming out victorious at toss, Iyer decided to bowl first seeing the overcast conditions, which could eventually add value to the result.
