It’s been a little over a month that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 concluded with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinching their maiden title, beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs. While it was RCB’s maiden title win in the tournament’s 18-year history, everyone is aleady looking forward to the next season, which will be played in 2026.
But as the time stands, on Tuesday, July 29, a shocking incident came to the front where IPL 2025 jerseys worth INR 6.5 Lakh were reportedly stolen from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) office at the Wankhede Stadium. As per the reports surfacing on social media, a security guard has been involved in this heist.

However, the exact timing of the incident is not known, but the 40-year-old security guard has been arrested for allegedly stealing around 261 jerseys from a storeroom at the the office. It is to be noted that a jersey in the IPL costs around INR 2500, which totals to INR 6.52 Lakh. As the picture got a bit clearer, the incident occurred on June 13 but it came into limelight during an audit that showed stock missing and was confirmed after the CCTV footage was checked.
The guard Farooque Aslam Khan, who is said to live at Mira Road, reportedly sold the jersey to fund his gambling addiction. "The guard had told the man in Haryana that the jerseys were part of a stock clearance sale due to renovation work that was going on at the office," a police officier told. "The online dealer says he was not aware that the jerseys had been stolen," he further added.
Notably, out of the 261 jerseys that were stolen, 50 of them have been recovered. The guard said that he got the money from the online dealer straight into his back account. However, with police being involved into the matter now after a BCCI official lodged a complaint at the Marine Drive Police Station, it has to be seen what comes out.
