With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 underway in the Indian subcontinent currently, the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan have now propelled the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to suspend the tournament indefinitely until further notice. After the match number 58, which was held between Punjba Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off due to unknown reasons, the BCCI has taken stern steps to suspend the tournament for time being.
The decision from the Indian cricket board came after a meeting between the top brass of the BCCI. “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while country is at war,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

Moreover, this comes seeing the key challenge to manage the concerns of foreign players, who are believed to be getting restive with each passing day amid the ongoing tensions. While the suspension comes at a point where the tournament has already seen 58 matches out of the 74 matches scheduled matches in the 2025 edition.
With only 16 matches left in the IPL 2025, it will now reportedly take place at a later date, which is still unknown. On Thursday, May 8, the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, cricket in Dharamsala came to a standstill and the HPCA Stadium was evacuated with precision after Pakistan launched an aerial attack on Jammu as well as targeted several military stations on the western border.
Seeing the abrupt call off, IPL Chairman Arun Shumal clarified that any further decision will be taken after consultation with the government. “We are reviewing the situation. It's evolving, and we haven't received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind," Dhumal said.
